I've made changes to my landing page to improve QS - how does one tell AdWords to recheck the destination URL so the QS can be updated? And how often would AdWords recheck the landing page on its own? Also - since overall QS is based on keyword relevancy relative to ad text, is there any way to see the QS for your ad text?
"We do collect Quality Score data on keywords and ad texts, but this does not always mean you can bounce right back after a rough go. For example, if you are advertising on the keyword 'cute puppies'- our system will remember that you have performed poorly on 'cute puppies' in the past, and will assign a lower Quality Score if you try to use this keyword in the future (same thing goes for ad text). Also take into account the account Quality Score component. If your account has done poorly in the past, this history will hurt future efforts because the system assumes your new performance will reflect the old performance. That said, it is possible to overcome bad history- especially if the bad history is a short bad history. It's an uphill battle early on, but if you take time and really manage the account's performance (delete/pause poor performing keywords, increase bids on those that are performing, create tight ad groups, test ad copy etc), it is possible to reverse the poor history and improve your score.
The Quality Score is not calculated only according to the landing page, it is calculated as per the relevancy of your past keywords, historical Click through Rate(CTR), account's performance in the geographical region where the ad will be shown. It checks how relevant your keyword is to your ad text and to a user's search query. The quality of keyword is updated regularly as per the performance. You can just see the QS of your keywords and not of anything else because Google Adwords calculates it for each of your keywords.
Sorry, I don't get this - does this mean it isn't possible to have the Adwords spider recheck your landing page after you've made changes? That would seem extremely odd. Yes I know it's based on all sorts of things, but I'd like to get AdsBot-Google to check the landing page again as then the keyword QS would go from 'OK' to 'Great'.
If I'm understanding you correctly, try changing the destination page by putting something like a ?ad=1 on the end. Example: domain.com becomes domain.com?ad=1 This should get google to revisit the landing page, thinking it's a different one.
Actually it seems not to work, even though I expected it to. Editing the the destination URL for the ad didn't get google to check the page again. I tried creating a new ad group with a new ad, and that does cause the waiting icon to appear which indicates Google is checking the page - however, the Quality Scores displayed for the keywords are exactly the same as before (in the old ad group) even though the landing page is totally different. I don't understand why that is.
google always has to do a landing page check whenever a text ads destination url has changed. Even if its a slight change so the best way to get them to revisit without having to host the landing page on a brand new url is to change or add a parameter to the end of the text ad url string if your landing page is mylandingpage.com/lp1 then repost the text ad with the following url change mylandingpage.com/lp1?anything=anything replace anything with whatever you want like muchacho said, just put ?ad=1 to the end of the string. Google will assume its a new landing page and be forced to reevaluate it. As 3amart said, dont expect a QS score change right away. It might take google some time to bring your quality score up
