I'm sure you've all seen those ads, that say they'll give you a free laptop, ipod, etc. I was wondering how those things work, I assume they're getting the money from ad clicks because of the referrals, but I'm not sure. Would starting one of those programs require a hefty investment, and is illegal, and more importantly, is it smart?
The way it works it they require the web user to apply for several offers. (usually 4-5 credit cards) and once you are approved for all 5 credit cards and have them for 6-9 months you will get your laptop. The company marketing the offers is paid by each credit card company $150+ for each application, so yes they make a tidy profit and here's the clincher. Over 95% of applicants never apply for all of the offers or they don't get approved for all of them and the marketing company still gets paid! I do feel they are kind of shady since they don't disclose upfront the full details which is why after 3 applications most people just quit. Good luck!
Is there any way to get in contact with credit card companies who affiliate with sites who are attempting to create this type of program?
I would go through the process with one of the marketing companies and note all of the credit cards they are marketing(that way you know for sure they are interested in this type of deal) and then contact them and ask for business development or advertising. Also, you will see that there are more than just credit card companies. There are some VOIP and Satellite companies etc. sprinkled in. Take note of those tool. Good luck.
