When I saw Matt, Jennstar, DaveN and ChrisR down in the lounge the first thing Matt said to me was "So I hear you are going to have a new seo contest" or something like that.

After I explain what I am going to do I think he unofficially dug it. (especially since its not a keyword contest)

Ninno - I have not heard from seologs yet... He is a busy guy though I do not expect until next week to hear from him.

Top left is the site that I originally had #1 for a while. Top right is the site that got me 2nd place, then two other sites. I just didn't get fat enough!!!! grrr!!!!

Crud!!!!! I was only two weeks late at geting back to 1st in all datacenters!! I demand a recount!!

LOL!! I don't know how you survived so long with so many back-links!! Remember redscowl-bluesingsky.net, that was #1 for so long??!! Well....the domain had been banned from Google!!! No listings and it lost it's PR 4!!!

Looks like around 30,000 views a day through the co-op during the last 10 days of the contest was way too much!!! New lesson learned: During the last few weeks of a contest, you can bomb a new domain with back-links...but it might be banned about a month after you do that!!

I noticed it started droping after I started bombing it with a ton of co-op links!!! During the month before, I gave the domain about 3,000 page-views a day through the co-op.

 

Your timing Nintendo sounds similar to my Google Bowling experience ... although in my case, I think it was just the natural exuberance of my (great) supporters linking like crazy - maybe some co-op involved (?)

$64,000 question is how long does it take to recovered from the penalty ... and do you have to remove the links to do so.

 

I took off all my redirects the day the contest was over. I am suprised it took this long to die off.

 

After the contest ended, I crashed the domain back to about 3% of the weight instead of around 25% or more, so once it's unbanned...if it ever gets unbanned, then we'll know. Hopefully you don't get banned soon!!

Redirects!!!!!! So you redirected high PR pages to that page...making you go to 1st!!! So is that the secret!!

I had 2 different domains that were old and had high pr that I 301'd

 

grrrr!!!!!! That's all!!!!! grrrrr!!!! Just as I guessed!!! I had a ton of back-links, but you had the PR!!!! er why do they say PR is almst worthless??!!! grrr!!!

NEWSFLASH: PR is better than back-links!!! Argggg!!!!!!

 

well as you know you could not use a domain older then the contest so I thought it would be interesting to see if I 301'd a older domain with pr to that url.
