Redirects affect anchor text links?

    I am thinking about changing my domain name and redirecting my traffic using a 301 re-direct. Now I have many backlinks pointing at my site with anchor text. This is done to help my SERPS and my question is will these anchor text links still be effective for my optimized keywords on the new domain?

    kinda, I call this the splash effect.

    The splash effect is when you have links to a domain that is being redirected, the redirected domain gets the majority of the link power and some of it 'splashes' onto the real domain (domain at the end of the redirect). So you don't get the full effect of the links but they still help

    here's a cool example that looks crap :) the more --- the more power the link effect has

    link------->redirected domain- - - - - ->end domain

    So in other words, it would be wise for me to get those sites who link to me (my partners/affiliates) to change the target location of the anchor text.

    Thanks, I like your splash effect theory;)

    yep yep, may be a lot of work and possibly more hassle than it's worth asking people to change there links to you, perhaps you should concentrate on getting more new links to the end domain because the splashed links are still getting you some love :)
