I have many websites hosted on shared cpanel hosts. I have the domains with another provider. I've used this tool that I was shown from this forum: http://www.searchmasters.co.nz/redirect-check/ (which is an excellent tool btw) When I scan any of my sites none of my sites are actually returning a 200 (ok) response they are all returning 301 permanent redirects. This is ok, but i'm guessing to have a 200 (OK) response you need to be hosting your own dedicated server right? I'm not creating duplicate content and all redirects are routed to one single domain not a variation of "http://example.com" or anything like this they are all routed to "www.example.com" however my "www.example.com" domain isn't showing as a 200 (OK) response its a 301 redirect? This is not all bad as after checking other sites that I thought would be served on shared servers they return the same type of results for example try: www.johnchow.com So is there a way of making it display a 200 (OK) response or is this not possible unless I have a dedicated server? Also I host many other domains from the same server, however they are all separate and set up correctly, just all give a permanent 301 (I have used www.example.com in this post as I don't wanna affect the traffic to my website)
A 200 server should always be shown (except on redirects), it doesn't matter what server you are on. 200=Everything is ok 404=Page not found 500=Server error etc. Cheers,
Well, I agree to Lpe04, I checked the URLs sent by Swimace, they returned a 200 response to me on a tool I use. By the way, if you use firefox, you can use the addon - httpfox which shows the requests and response codes from any page you visit. Just check the URL you requested and the response. What I feel is --http://www.searchmasters.co.nz/redirect-check/ is a bit confusing (I did try my URLs too ) you enter any URL, it tries its own combinations and returns 301 for all, so better avoid !
