Redirecting from a Penalized Site

So I have a site - one of my favorites that has been penalized by Google. How can I tell? No cache on the home page but oddly still a PR 4.

I want to redirect since I have lots of natural links going to the penalized site right now. I guess I could try reinclusion but I haven't heard that many have had success with the process in Google. I know that it is possible but seems unlikely.

In any case, is it wise to redirect pages from that penalized site to a new site that I am creating? I doubt the penalty carries through but having more opinions is always useful.

I've got a site like that - I took forums off and suddenly it crashed from #3 in search terms to "not listed." I can still find it by looking for the URL, but apparently too many pages disappeared at once. Wonder how long until it comes back?

There is still some flux in google right now. I am still wondering what people think about redirecting from a penalized site?

Hmmm. Wasn't aware Google was in flux again.

    I probably wouldn't do it....

A redirect basically explains that the document has moved and all links and PR should follow to the new location..... I don't see why a penalty wouldn't follow along with it...
