It will take some time to index the new domain to the level of the blogspot.

But: I would use both for now, and keep them both for 1-2 months until you are stable on the other website. Put a noticable annoucement on the blogspot saying page has moved to the new domain but still keep it working.

I am talking about re-directing a new domain to blogspot. so my blogspot blog remains as it is but gets a new simpler domain name.

If you go for permanent redirection (301) then there is no changes in SERP

You cannot do a 301 in Blogspot..

you could paste this code here, which would redirect the user :)

Content=0 <-- this is the no. of seconds interval before the page will reload into the other domain that you can replace :)

Just paste it in the <head> section.

    Points appreciated *_*

guys..do you know that blogspot allows you to use custom domain?

You can set something like http://www. abcd .com

after doing this all the visitors will only see www. abcd . com/page.html and not the actualy blogspot page..however it's all hosted by blogspot.

now i want to know if this new www. abcd . com domain will get the same PR and SERP?

No, it will not. I have my blog on http://web-messengers.blogspot.com with pr of 4. I've just upgraded to custom domains on http://blog.imessengr.com . Not it has pr of 0. Google see it as a new website. You will definetly not get the same SERPs and Technorati Rank as well.

I think you should have your own domain, it's always better for SEO. Read this. There are many other reasons to own your domain. Make a search on google, you'll find many topics about this.

My blog had many backlinks and PR 4 as well. Backlinks do not counted as votes for my new domain anymore but they are still working, all blogspot url's are redirected to your my url. I guess google will fix my PR on the new update. I do not worry SERPS and PR, because having your own domain is kinda investment.

I think 301 was the solution.
