Hello guys I have a fourm at www.mysite.com/forum I had redirected www.mysite.com to www.mysite.com/forum My questions is should I get links for www.mysite.com ? WIll directories link to mysite.com? I had plans to develop mysite.com later, right now just forum is live... So if people link to mysite.com will it pass PR to www.mysite.com/forum ? Any help will be higly appreciated. Thank you
As long as your redirect is putting out a 301 status code, you should be alright. Check it here: http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp
That should work. Google is seems to be playing with redirects, I can not pin it down, but they seem to be trying to differentiate between 301 and 302 redirects in some instances. But normal behavior for all engines is for a 301 to be followed and indexed as the target. 301 redirects would be the proper usage for a permanent situation. Here is some info on why 302 redirects are bad.
