Hi, I have 2 domains, we'll call it 123.com and abc.com . 123.com hosts real content but the domain name is difficult to remember. So I got abc.com since it's easier to remember. Right now, I redirect abc.com to 123.com via <frameset> . But my question is, for SEO purposes, should I buy links for abc.com or 123.com or both? Any help would be appreciated!!
Definitely do not redirect using a frameset. Use a 301 redirect to redirect all requests from abc.com to 123.com. So: abc.com/somepage 301 redirects to 123.com/somepage abc.com/ 301 redirects to 123.com/ There's some info on redirects here: http://www.scanalarm.com/blog/?p=9. The frameset is probably the worst think you could do from an SEO POV! Alternatively, if you prefer the name abc.com you could reverse that so 123.com 301 redirects to abc.com instead - however bear in mind that your search engine rankings might suffer for a while while Google catches up with the redirection and reallocates the PageRank allocated to 123.com to abc.com.
I have an issue that is similar to the above, but have not used ant redirect yet. The site I wanted to redirect from has a PR5 and over 200,000 backlinks. What are the consequence for the SEO? i am hoping in favour of for the newer site. Also if the answer is in the positive, what are the advantages for future targeted keyword posts if my blog has a PR5 and over 200,000 backlinks? Will Google give it some weight without the backlink building to each page? assuming these are longtail and not competitive keywords.
