Redirect entire site - will new domain pagerank drop?

Discussion in 'Google' started by hbuilder, Jan 9, 2010.

A simple question to DP pros here. I would like to redirect my entire site to a new domain. Will the pagerank follow to the new site? If the pagerank follows, so my new domain will have the same pagerank as my old domain during the next update?

How about my site's SERP? Will Google.com index all my pages of my new domain like the old domain?

    Thanks very much!

From my research in the last 24 hours... i beleive that a 301 redirect will ensure your PR stays the same... Google 301 redirects (ive been doing the same).. Good luck... i would also like to hear some more on this topic, Thanks

Yeah, 301 redirect should move the pagerank to the new page. It simply tells Google that the page has permanently moved to a new location and that it's been done so on purpose by the webmaster hence ranking will move with it.

A 301 redirect will preserve all the PR, Rankings and Linkbacks.
But, you have to do it for each and every individual pages.

Thanks guys. What if the redirected domain is bad from google's eye. So will it get good PR from the source domain?

If this is the case, I can redirected any high PR domain name to google punished domain name in order to get it working again.
