You sure can. Use a 301 redirect.

It's ok if you use a 301 redirect, not a 302. Search google for it.

You will have to keep the 301 up forever if you want all the old links to pass some value. I have noticed even using a 301 you lose some of the ranking power the links pass along.

    Just my 2 1/2 cent. ;p

if you use 301 redirect, everythink will transfered from old domain to the new subdomain

But when you take the 301 off they are gone, because the sites that are linking did not update their link urls. No SE will give you a life time credit for a one time 301, otherwise we would all be 301ing each other. ;p

I have experienced the same thing. But it's the closest you get to saving some of that PR.

That's right. But I have seen cases where 301 has been used to hijack a lot of PR. The technique was described at a SEO blog about 1 year ago, I can't find it now.

Yes that was out like 3 years ago, but I think it was a 302 back then. Last year I published the bit on MSN and the flaw in their algo to remove pages from the serps. That caused much upset in the seo community.. lol Since that time they have fixed most of these problems.

I only put in 301's when I really have to move and have no plans on moving back or some place else. After that I keep the old location up for 3-5 years to be supper safe. Nothing like shooting yourself in the foot, I say!

As long as the two domains had/have similar content then a 301 usually works on Google. MSN may freak out if you do a lot of 301 or 302. Yahoo takes ages to even realise - months sometimes.

For Google, the key factor is that the old site and new site need to have similar content. This is one of the ways they avoid the hijacking scenario.
