Redirect a domain request to another domain, without affecting the former

    Hi..
    We have a website, www.domain1.com

And we have setup demo of our products at www.domain1.com/demosite/

Now, we have changed our business name to www.domain2.com , but www.domain1.com is still a live site, and we dont want to touch it, since its of my partner and ranks very well.

Now, what we need is, we have copied the www.domain1.com/demosite/ to www.domain2.com/demosite/

Since all the links from www.domain1.com/demosite/ has already got indexed since 2 years, so we need to do something, so that when Google shows any URL to www.domain1.com/demosite/... , it should automatically redirect to www.domain2.com/demosite/ .

Let me know, if anyone has got an idea, how to handle this.

If you redirect one site to another then the original site will no longer rank because the search engines will only see the site it is redirected to (unless you did something tricky like checking the user agent or IP address and only redirecting specific users, but this is risky and could get you in trouble if caught since it is a form of cloaking).

If you want your original site to continue to rank then you do not want to redirect it.

If you only want to redirect a specific folder on one site to another such as (demosite folder) then you can setup a redirect from all URLs in this folder to another site in your .htaccess file. Just keep in mind that if you do this, that the folder of the original site will no longer continue to rank.
