I need advice how to properly revamp a site.

I'm planning to redesign a website (move to a new cms, Joomla to Wordpress). The new design will have big improvements with the code and the aesthetic But will still have the original content. I'll also preserve the original URLs.

How will it affect my SEO? I'm afraid I will loss my pagerank in some of my pages.

    Thansk!

Probably it will not effect any SEO (and ofcourse PageRank) as far as you are keeping the original URLs. You can safely go with the new design.

It depends on whether your original site is better optimised than the CMS and the content you put in it. As long as you do preserve the original urls you should be fine. If you are not using pretty urls, ie descriptive urls, you may want to consider using them in the future. Use 301 redirects on the old urls. It is hard to give any more information without having a url to analyse.

great. thanks for the advice! This is enough info for me.

@webdev007 and @mug Greatly appreciate your opinions! I'll be trying my best to retain my old URLs even moving to new cms.

@Santacruze Thanks for the Link, I'd be bookmarking those sites. It has some good points and would be practicing those for future projects.

If it's done right you will be ok. Just make sure to dot your i's and cross your t's. Small mistakes can cost you a couple months of working your way back up, trust me.

    Joomla to Wordpress-

With same URL & content, it should not affect the ranking if done properly. Make sure your site won't be down at that time else take preventive measure.

It won't effect anything as look as you make sure you don't have any broken links etc.

You should be much better off once you have the migration finished. Wordpress is just so much more seo friendly than joomla. The new Drupal (7.x)is looking good these days too though
