Reddit, Googletop etc: Submitted not Posted?

Sites like Reddit and Googletop seem to have a difference between submissions and postings/publishings. All the links I submit to reddit end up as submitted but not posted and this means that they are invisible to anyone other than me and so other people can't vote on them and I can't get the 3 votes that I need to get the links dofollow.:(

Is there a trick to getting links/stories posted/published rather than just submitted? With all SB sites I join, I do try to comment and vote on other people's postings - so I'm not purely spamming.

Is it just that these sites object to you promoting tutorials etc and so moderators delete your posts before they get a chance? Or is there anything else I can do?
