fryman, I hear you. You would think it's a stupid little thing to get worked up over wouldnt you? Problem is it's gone beyond being just a stupid little thing. I just started posting here again after a long hiatus and have noticed (as a fresh pair of eyes looking in) that the whole random negative rep thing disrupts A LOT of threads. I quite literally can't go a full session without seeing someone mention they were given negative rep for basically nothing and reading their post, I agree. Latest example: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=25053 Fact is this thing is more disruptive than it's worth. There is no actual benefit to itother than that some people like it. However there ARE tangible drawbacks to it as you can see. Having read everyone's opinions I actually now think it should be disabled. Or made so only mods and staff can give neg rep. If we disable it then *gasp* people might actually have to post their opinions about each other's post in the forums where they belong.
Why go over this again? There have been loads of threads about rep... it is here to stay, so just forget about it.
I have never found people to hold in their opinions here. That is one of the reasons this forum has continued to grow at an astonishing rate. People post what they feel and that has generated some pretty good threads. Most of the over the top stuff stopped a couple of months ago
I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about. Although I will say that I read the entire Terrorism thread and it was actually a great debate that was quite entertaining. It was nice to see GTech posting again
All I'm saying is that AC could quite often be involved in some of the over the top stuff. Although some of his debates were very interesting I would say that AC had many faces while at DP.
I think it's better that it doesn't show who gave you the rep. Because, like Fryman said before, you might feel the need to give a person the same rep in return whether it be good or bad, and it would ruin the system
Once you start geting rep you'll notice most people when they give green rep include there name with the message. So we allready know who gives the rep, when it's green. I'm guessing no one enters there name when it's red!
Yeah the good green reps are usually for an obvious reason, like completing a job or something, so it's not hard to tell who it is. I'm half way to my second little green square and every single green has been signed.
I dont know how red rep should be handeled. At what point can privliges taken away...Some people just dish out the red rep because you have a different view than them. I know I got some red rep for my views on content, althought I did get more green than I did red. But the point of my post is, how much can you actaully base off your "rep"?
DA gave me a red soon after I got here. He told me not to copy and quote live links or something like that. I learned from that and it was cool. I've had other reds that were just dumb from Anony Mouse and I ignore them. I rarely give red reps. I'd rather argue about the subject in the thread, but when I do, I sign my name.
