Mozilla Firefox is the second most popular web browser in the world – and also one whose user base is growing rapidly. Mozilla Firefox has what are known as Add-Ons which are installed and work separately from the web browser but within it. These Add Ons have a widget like behavior as in the widgets placed in various websites. An example of a Firefox Add On is the AdBlock addon. This Add-On allows a person to block ads in any website he/she visits. It is quite popular with many web users but not as much amongst those responsible for the websites since it redces the revenue that is crucial to the websites success.

Mozilla Firefox Add-Ons are present in an online repository on the firefox website. This repository contains a description of an Add-On, its author, several reviews and the ability to download and install the Add-On which is a simple process.

Here is a list of some of the ‘Red Hot’ Firefox add-ons.

    Google Gears –

This Firefox add-on allows a person to create offline copies of Google web data. This includes data in Gmail accounts, Google Calendar and in Google Docs. This is a very important extension for internet users who heavily use the above mentioned services and require viewing of data offline. It can also be used to create backups of such data.

    AdBlock –

AdBlock is perhaps one of the most popular Firefox add-ons. It functions as an advertisement blocker. A user can block any type of ad present on a website. Additionally, there are several options for a person as well as custom block lists. This add-on is useful but it is worth noting that most websites acquire revenue from this advertising. As such, prolonged usage of this extension by many people on a website may well result in its downfall.

    DownThemAll –

This is a Firefox add-on that acts as a Download manager (in much the same way as Download Accelerator works). It allows a person to pause, resume, accelerate and automate his/her downloads. It allows a person to download images and links from a page rather than having to click each and everything. A very useful extension for internet users who download a lot.

    ScribeFire –

This add-on acts a Blog Editor. It allows a person who has a blog to easily post to it by using this add-on. As such, it is highly useful for many bloggers.

    Fasterfox –

This is a highly useful add-on. It allows a person to increase the speed of the firefox browser. This is done by tweaking several core items. Additionally, this add-on also has the ability to exceed RFC specs. It also includes a page load timer and works superbly with the Flashblock add-on installed.

    Firebug –

This add-on is crucial to web development. Most web developers make use of this add-on in a day to day basis. This add-on functions as a web page analyzer. It breaks down a page into its specific HTML portions, allows highlighting specific portions and even making changes – changes that can then be viewed live. It as such is a better option as compared to the ‘View Source’ option.

    NoScript –

As the add-on name implies, this add-on blocks page scripts. It blocks/allows Javascript, Java and other plugins. It allows a person to allow scripts from chosen sites and block from others. This is a good security measure since some websites contain malicious scripts – although many sites use scripts for creating a much better webpage.

    Fire.fm –

This is an essential add-on for all those who use Last.Fm to manage and listen to music. It allows a person to directly listen to music from Last.Fm without having to visit the website manually.

    Cooliris –

This is a very graphically appealing add-on. It turns the web browser into a sort of 3d wall. A person can then search browse and share the web on this 3d wall of windows. This is a highly entertaining add-on that adds much zest to a boring web browser.

    Auto Pager –

This is a Firefox add-on that loads the next webpage in the background. For those internet users with ample bandwidth and good speeds, this is useful since it reduces the time spent waiting for a web page to load.

NOTE: It is recommended that a modest number of Add-Ons be installed – this is because the more the Add-Ons, the slower the browser gets. These Add-Ons achieve various purposes. Some are educational whereas some are also entertaining.

Adblock is a good plugin for mozilla to block advertisements, but If you have Noscripts plugin installed in your mozilla browser, there isn't any need for AdBlock plugin. Noscripts is more useful for me than Adblock.

Also if you have fasterfox, there isn't any need for Auto Pager plugin. FasterFox has a feature called "Link prefetching" which can do similar function of Auto Pager.

    I also recommend:

NoDoFollow to showcase what links on a website are No or Do Follow.
GmailManager allows you to auto login to your Gmail accounts with one click.
ColorPicker is a simple eye dropper tool that when turned on allows you to get the color code on any website when you find a color you like.
SEOQuake gives you all the information about all the websites that come up in searches to help determine competition.

    Add these to the list!

I like the CoolIris. It's really cool. It turns your browser into a "photo theater".
