Recently one of my websites suffered an attack in which a spammer injected code int a footer containing tons of spam links. i didn't notice it for almost 2 months before I removed it.

As a result my links from google stopped, rankings died, search listings have croaked.

Anyhow my question is - now that this has been removed - will it recover? How long should i Expect it to take? is there anything further I can do other than monitor my site to be sure this doesn't happen again? In my google webmaster controls I updated the sitemap but still see the spammy keywords listed - - -

I upgraded the software (wordpress) i was using to power the website to prevent further attacks.

If your site was banned/deindexed you could submit reconsideration request via webmaster tools.
