It's only lunchtime here, and Stat Counter shows my site with 164 unique visitors. My previous 24-hour record was 130. Two thoughts: 1) It has to do with whatever Google is up to (far beyond me to figure that one out). Or... 2) Five days ago I invested a modest $360 securing listings in some high pagerank directories. IF this #2 is the reason for the big spike in unique visitors, it would be quite a tribute to the value of higher-end directories in bringing traffic.
Yes, but I'm only subscribed to the free, basic service. Its stats are fairly limited. They seem to be pretty well distributed, as before, just a whole bunch more!
Do you have any access to the logs? You could download them and analyze them with Summary or a similar log analysis program. Also, what links did you buy?
No log access. Paid directories I subscribed to were: beaconpost.com directorymarker.com houndit.com seedirectory.com wizdirectory.com site-sift.com seoma.net ableseek.com greenstalk.com octopedia.com bigall.com thelanka.com complete-directory.com hedir.com socengine.com kalako.com
Well, not precisely. The "average" unique visitors daily for each twenty-four hours is 84. As of early afternoon today, it's 194, with nine-plus hours to go. I simply offered the observation in support of the discussion that some unusual things are going on. Or it could be as simple as new traffic from the paid directories I subscribed to last week. Anyway, we are thrilled here. As a self-funded nonprofit, offering spiritual content for the help of others, it's hard to quantify the value of additional traffic the way a commercial, "bottom-line" site would rightfully do. And may I add that I really appreciate all the help so many have offered to this website novice.
Congrats Jim. I know it's a great feeling to start to see things you've worked on start working for you. Looking forward to your "thousands visitors by lunch" post
