I started a previous thread on dedicated server recommendations.. but the more i look into it.. and with it being US IP/datacentre I am after etc.. maybe a premium VPS would do the trick... rather than dedicated server.. I guess around 100GB storage , 1000+ RAM , unlimited BW or somewhere near 2000GB, free control panel.. any kind, as long as I can reboot, watch useage stats, create domain accounts and assign IPs.. root access would be a plus.. SQL essential. Any recommends on VPS who give good support, fast network and uptime? Again... would pay up to $120 - $150 if service was going to be top notch.. I see online there are plenty cheap options.. but also see there are tons of bad reviews on them.. A user who has experience of a good one would be appreciated? Anyone use one of the cheap providers? Who do similar for $70 - $80? Good experiences? Going to sign up to one early this coming week, and have looked at vps.net , linode and a few others.. suggestions welcomed!.. for research..
linux I would say.. no reason other than my current servers are linux and I've never used windows ones..
Problems occur with virtually all hosts at some time so don't put all your eggs in one basket. I would recommend you get two or three inexpensive VPS's at around $20 -$30 each, look here and webmaster forums and you can find special offers that will get you 1gb ram and 50gb or more disk space. I only use unmanaged linux servers running ubuntu nowadays and have had good luck with vpsfarm.com for many years, very professional owner has taken care of my issues personally. I am just starting on his new cloud system. Burst.net, serverdeals.org, ostach.net are other places I have inexpensive servers that work ok, these guys offer managed servers as well if you need a control panel.
ostach looks ok.. quick e mail back aswell.. been looking at HostIcan and VPS next.. but you have to sign up for 6 or 12 months to get the best prices How did ostach work out for you cerno?
Considered a dedicated server? Most of the larger companies can provide you a great one with the budget your mentioning.
you can check at ramhost, i've been with them for long time. Great support and great server performance
Are you looking for an OpenVZ or Xen based Linux VPS? Also, do you have a preference of location within the United States?
I have had nothing but good experiences with my managed VPS at WiredTree. There are usually some good deals/coupons found online that give you 50% bonuses on resources for the life of your hosting account. Also, they make it really easy (and cheap) to go month-to-month. Recommend at least checking out their site! (I have no affiliation with them at all, other than being a happy customer)
They have a habit of being a inch expensive tho, you can find several providers offering the same quality at 2/3's of the price.
