Actually I observed this error, when submitting to other directories as well. It is however not persistent, but demonstrates the need to debug commercial software as well. I also can think that it possibly a problem that has to do with something else then the program.

It has been a while. I would like to know present opinions on the best directory software to go for! I'm especially interested into free versions that I can upload to a domain with a database.
Reasonable once-off prices would still be OK, I think

Another vote for PHPLD. I've tried a few others but like the features/price the best.

You can try my script, LinkEnginePro. It is a free script but has so many features that found in commercial scripts.

I recommend you my own semi-auto free directory submission tool. The good think is i can implement any good idea on it as soon as possible when you request.

Just a list of instruction for installing the directory software would be fine:).

eSyndicate and PHPLD are actually my favorites for now.
One issue would be the cost and purchasing procedure?

Again are the compatible with adsense? This would be crucial.

$75 per domain license. Copyright removal included ;) Flexible plans for multiple domains licenses.

Sure, there are several ways to add adsense - using block functionality in admin panel, banners plugin, template coding, etc.

    You decide ;)

I wrote my own small directory software to suite my need (dofollowblogslist.com). It has a management module as well :)

No smarty is no longer good. It use pure php as template just like wordpress. It is for speed and flexibility.

I think all script is adsense friendlly. Basically you need to find the template file and put adsense code there.
