I'm looking to design a webhost (think Flickr) and a article CMS, kinda like digg.com And a beginner (though I have dabbled in coding before)
I enjoyed the PHP5 & MySQL Bible. Pretty straight forward and fairly easy to pick up if you have prioir experience or not. Link to Amazon.
2 excellent books, been recommended. PHP and MYSQL for dummies, version 2 and sams teach yourself php in 24 hours Both books are available in PDF Format (that means FREE)
Well, stealing to me is like going into the shop, taking it and not paying this is like recording and downloading music and appliactions. I also have a video on my pc, which was released years ago and is prob not for sale no more, that is not stealing. Someone payed for it, and to help people, pass it to a friend.
Hi, is there any pdf documents of php & MySql, so that i can download it and start learning. If there any please give me the link. regards Prashanth
As i said, I have 2 pdf e-books php and mySQL for dummies, version 2 and SAMS teach yourself php in 24 hours Send me an email at and i will e-mail them to you.
Actually, I find the online documentation to be quite good, and it's always up to date (which a book is less likely to be.) One thing you won't get from the online refs, though, is a comprehensive overview of SQL. The O'Reilly 'Learning SQL' by Alan Beaulieu is a very good place to start, and uses MySQL for examples. Beaulieu also gives lots of references for more advanced excursions. rickb.
i started with, and after 2 years, still reference SAMS: Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL And Apache in 24 Hours. There are some great, real life examples in there.
For beginners who have some programming experience (in any other language) PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites by Larry Ullman is great (published by Peachpit Press). The book really covers a broad range of topics and has some great little tips even for the seasoned coder (I particularly liked the part that used the ternary operator to easily alternate row colours in tables ). Even as a beginner you'll probably feel confident enough to code any type of app after reading this book..
back in the day when functions and especially arrays intimidated me to no end, PHP/MySQL Programming for the Absolute Beginner was really useful. i finally understood functions after reading this though my background in programming before php was null
heheh thanks for all you recommendations guys im going to see if the library has them, and if not i'm going to the bookstore
I don't have a book recommendation, but I can vouch for php-skills.com. The guy has an excellent step-by-step tutorial on how to create a full cms website with PHP. Highly recommended! Good luck!
