Recommended AdWords Books or Resources

I've been at this now a couple of months and thought I knew the basics but I keep getting frustrated with the "inactive for search" BS. My store sells actual products AND I've been trying to supplement that with affiliate promotions.

Every time I get a campaign that actually starts to show potential, Google ups the cost making it unprofitable. None of my landing pages have any affiliate links, my click through rates are usually between 2 - 8%, and from everything I have read here and elsewhere I am doing all the right things.

Then I see ads competitive with mine for the same keywords that are blatant affiliate link farms with absolutely nothing on them but junk links to affiliate stores. One I saw this morning was even a re-direct to a product on Amazon, the URL said it was something like "FinditHere.com" or something.

So I guess my question is, are there any really good books or resources that anyone can recommend that have any additional info that CANNOT be found free online? I saw the Perry Marshall thing and some of the others that really look a lot like "Get rich telling people how to tell people how to get rich" type crap.

Or is it really just impossible to make money without running some kind of scam.

    Help?

    Gary

There is a review on the following link which has not been indexed yet
    by the engines:-

    http://www.memwg.com/blog/adsense/

This review basically explains what is in the book and the approach taken with
    quite a lot of detail.

The second review by Steve Stunt is more enthusiastic but then he has
had time to test the plan outlined in the book and had very positive
    results with it.
