    All,

I have a new Joomla site with VirtueMart installed. I am looking for a plugin to where it can turn my URLs into search engine friendly, something I can manipulate and change myself. In addition to adding meta tags, description, and all.

I had .SEF Advance but then the trial ended and would have to pay a lot of money. Is there another type that almost does the same thing but cheaper or free. What do you guys think about Artio JoomSEF?

    Any other ones?

Also what other SEO plugins have you installed on your Joomla site to help with ranking?

Please let me know. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I use Artio JoomSEF on my site and it works well - easily customizable and you can have your meta tags auto-generated or easily fill in custom ones (it shows meta tags for everything in one long list, which you can organise by page, component etc, - makes editing the tags FAR easier!).

    Good luck!

Using the free version at the moment which puts a JoomSEF link at the bottom of the main content area. As far as I know, the paid for version removes this link. PM me if you want to *cough* "take care" of it.

For those who may be reading this thread and new to Joomla, you do not need a third-party extension to have SEF-friendly urls and to do a good seo job on your site.

Joomla comes with SEF settings that only require renaming the htaccess.txt file that comes with Joomla to .htaccess - if you are on a Unix or Linux server with standard Joomla-friendly support.

While it doesn't necessarily give you direct control over the urls, you do have a lot of control over them by the way you name your menu options; sections; categories and article titles.

It is generally advisable to only install those 3rd party extensions that are truly necessary, and in my option, that does not include SEF extensions.
