    Hi guys,
I'm looking for a decent and scalable Email Marketing Application. It can be either web based (asp/sql or php/mysql) or desktop based(windows/mac).

Some of the desired features include
    • html / text emails
    • ability to group email contacts
    • provide stats such as click thrus etc...
    • affordable
    • be able to email from your chosen domain

    Any recommendations?
    Many thanks,
    Cormac

We've been pretty happy with Constant Contact, I have several clients who have used it.

That looks nice and is certainly one to be considered.
The only issue with it is the fact that it's hosted on the service provider's webspace. I would prefer a more self managed option.

I have been looking at GroupMail but I'm considering alternatives and recommendations of course.

I consult on email marketing as part of my job, by which I mean people with banks of servers who handle their own ISP relations, worry about the speed of their MTA and the like. I say this because I want you to understand where I'm coming from on my next question: Do you have a very good reason that you want to manage this on your own? There are a ton of factors that go into successful email marketing that the ESPs handle for you, things that you yourself simply won't know about, let alone address. These issues will affect the amount of email that your customers see and the success of your campaigns.

If you do have a compelling reason, and that's up to you, the mid-range products start with SendStudio and oempro (hit google for more info on either). They're both in the $200 range if I recall correctly and handle most small shop needs. After that, the jump up to enterprise level is $15K-$25K. There's no gradual ascent in this field, really.
