An Ultra Portable Toshiba is the answer, of course with Centrino Technology for long lasting batteries (actually it's the architecture itself that won't drain your battery so quickly)

I have a Portege, Tablet version and batteries last a few hours, 4-5, depending on what you I with it.

The only problem with this one, in just over a year, is a sticky left touchpad button, obviously dust or dirt got in and I don't know how to get it out!

I guess I'll figure out something. But no other problems at all.

    Lightweight and longlasting battery.

Or there are those (large) pocket size ones with the full functionality of the standard ones but so small that I am going to look in to them soon.
I've only seen JVC and Sony models, so I might as well wait for Toshiba to make something similar. I would think that batteries last even longer.

I will never ever buy another Dell in this lifetime or the next - had two laptops from them that were disasters and the customer support (even with the gold package) was awful. So, when last Dell finally died its last and miserable death (I've already resurrected it after 3 dead hard drives and a defective motherboard), I went searching. The web site earlier referenced, NotebookReview.com was BRILLIANT - I couldn't have made a decision without it. I wanted something light, fast, good sized hard drive, decent amount of memory, and one of the fancy bright screens - size didn't matter because I wanted portability for my writing projects, surfing the web and email. I ended up with an HP V2000Z that I custom configured on the HPShopping.com site. It has an 80G hard drive, 512 MB, XP Pro, wireless with bluetooth, weighs 5.3 lbs and has a 12 cell battery that purports to run 5-6 hours on a charge. The cost, without a service plan, was around $1100.

I should have it today and CAN'T WAIT... I feel like I'm crippled without it. Too many hours sitting upright in an office chair and all the blood drains to my feet. LOL

I've had a toshiba for about 2 years now and it's been really nice, no problems with it at all, very reliable and they are pretty good price wise

Well the xps is really awesome for playing games... I would even venture to say its the best gaming laptop on the market.

Sadly that is all I have ever used it for.

I scored(sniped) a really good deal on ebay for my t150. I got it for 1500 and i couldnt even tell it was ever used.

Yeah, but I checked the review at Cnet and they say that if you are planning on taking it around with you you will need a chiropractor after a few days :D

I gotta tell you for the money the 700m is perhaps the best deal on the market when dell runs those 50% off deals. You can pick one up with docking station decked out for under 1k easy.

I'll check out what I find at the fair at the WTC... if I don't get anything there I'll just wait until November when I'll be at Canada for a week and buy one there

btw all my friends who have thinkpads swear by them. I have no experience with them though. Of course all of them have there thinkpads comped by there company.

I find the ibm laptops too pricey for what you get.

Packard Bell  Never heard of it

Anyway, I am just in love with the Dell inspiron 700m. Tiny cute thing that I will be able to carry around all over the place. I am going to load it with all the features available and it will be my birthday present (November 7th, in case you want to send a gift) :D

I recently had to choose a laptop also, (but it wasn't for me), and acer won the price/performance test. Off course prices here in europe are diffrent then the ones over in the USA or Canada

I'm have been really impressed with my Alienware Sentia (cyborg green) because it has a nice fast processor and hard drive, it is great for the sound editing that I frequently do. I bought it a year ago, however they've since shrunk them to be more "portable". Check it out - they're expensive but the components are excellent, very high quality monitor.
