Recommend a CMS

    Hi all

    I am looking for a simple to use CMS

    I need to be able to upload an existing website into a CMS programme so that the site owner can make future changes to it.

    It seems that Joomla is pretty popular. Do all servers support this and are there any alternatives that you can recommend.

    There are many alternatives, you can check out joomla and other cms at

    www.opensourcecms.com

    Joomla is supported if the server is linux/unix based and you most have access to mysql database.

    Joomla is operating system independent: it definitely runs fine under Windows. It requires a PHP enabled server, but the OS doesn't matter.

    Joomla! is the best! Don't use PHP-Nuke... wasted much of my life on it.

    I worship Joomla! It's saved my life, cuz I started earning alot more money from the increased google rankings, at a time when I really need it!

    From mid five figure struggles with PHP-Nuke to high six figures!!!

    The code-to-content ratio really helps out. I personally take some more of the code out into external CSS files any time I can.

    Just launched yesterday, but already used by big names like the CuttySark in the UK. (http://www.cuttysark.org.uk) - so it's a proven solution.

    It's definitely a different concept from the rest, layouts are 100% CSS, and it goes well beyond the concept of CMS by adding a Paypal-compatible shop (you just need to enter your paypal email), discussion forums, rss/opml, image gallery, integration with any third party service (flickr, google analytics, etc).

    It's not free, but it only cost 18 bucks a month (9 pounds). It's hosted for you and monitored 24/7.

    Whatever system you chose, be ready to patch and upgrade at a moments notice. I have had phpNuke hacked and started checking out Joomla and others and they all seem to have "upgrade immediately" links on their sites.

    You might consider Adobe's Contribute.
