Link dumps can only give you short term traffic. Be careful on the link dumps you dump your link,many link dump are flooded with adult links and these link dumps have lower quality of traffic. Find those link dump that need admin approval like iambored or zyped to name a few. Hope it helps.
Manual, hard work will show the best results. What's worked for me is just going around getting link exchanges with other sites...you get traffic from them and SEO, i hate doing it, but it's what works.
