I've been trying to get back into the swing of going internet marketing again, I have no idea what applications are I shoul be looking to use, can anyone make some recommendations?

I got an email from a net-marketer he said he was using webceo, seomoz, spyfu, wordtracker - my impression of him is that he is a bit of a hack, so I dont really want to trust his knowledge.

    looking forward to your recommendations.

Word Tracker is actually a very good product although you can get pretty far with the free keyword tool from Google. SEO Elite is also another very good product for doing site analysis.

Not sure where you were when you quit IM, but those tools you think you might need, you probably don't. :)

The only useful tools anyone needs in the beginning is a spreadsheet app, a spell checker, and Notepad. All are free.
Go back and make sure you know the basics of IM. Things change, and change quickly in IM.
Then decide which route you will try first. For example, Article Marketing, PPC, blogging etc.

As you progress, the tools you think you need will become apparent to you. I've wasted my money on a whole bunch of them. I don't want to slam anyone or any product, so I won't mention specifics, but think along the lines of Keyword Research, SEO tools, and watching your competition.

If you are smart, and serious, you will quickly find out that there is one tool that I didn't mention that you will need. A good web site design tool. One of the biggest changes I have seen in IM over the past year or so is the need of a professional looking site. While some will argue that it is the content that rules, not the looks of the site, I think that is just BS. People do expect a professional looking site. You will need to make that decision on your own though.;)

    Good luck!!

thanks to both of you, but zeekstern,

Before I can decide on how to go about my IM,then surely I should do some competitor analysis?, see what the sites I am competing with(there are just a few) are doing in terms of IM marketing?

Then my strategy should be decided?

If thats the case, which I think it is, are there tools that can help me do that?

I did make a post a few days ago, trying to find how I could get my knowledge updated (I was semi-IM literate in 2004). I have already spent 20-40hours reading(not really got anyway)

But articles/software providers/blogs on methods and strategies for IM all seem to be bias towards products or the writers feild of expertise.
How do you really get an unbiased view, thats the problem I have.

thanks again, keep the responses coming, it providing useful incite for me.

Check out my sig. We teach beginners as well as the advanced.

The best way to start out for you, in my opinion, is to find a hungry crowd with a problem. Then you do your keyword and marketing research. During this part is when you can check out your competitors if you wish. Your concern in the beginning will be the number of websites promoting the product you choose to solve the problem.

"But articles/software providers/blogs on methods and strategies for IM all seem to be bias towards products or the writers feild of expertise.
How do you really get an unbiased view, thats the problem I have."
I don't understand what you are getting at. An unbiased view of what?

By the way, we have our own tools including keyword tools, link tracking, website builder, website templates, free hosting, article spinners and more.

    Good luck,
    Zeek

Strangely enough I think you already made my point, you have your own tools, I guess there is a cost involved somewhere with your site/tools are really going tell me the tools you have are the best on the market for doing covering all the aspects of site marketing.

I'm sure I could 100 other different sites offing IM tools that all claim the same, so when I say unbiased, It means impartial, someone stand to gain anything by like your response to my post promoting your site.

you first post was the type of advice I was after.... thanks for trying anyway ;-)

Yes, we have our own tools. The purpose of the site I referred you to is to teach IM. Yes there is a cost. And yes we are the best. As far as the tools go, they do the job. Are they the best? Don't know. Just know they do the job.

I doubt if you could find 100 sites that have what we have to offer. In fact, I doubt if you could find 2 sites.

I understand what impartial is, just didn't understand what you were getting at. But I do now. The only good free tool thats you will definately need can be found on Google. Open an Adwords account and use that version of their keyword tool. They also have several other tools available.

As far as other tools, that will depend on how you plan to market. For example, article spinners. I don't know if you know what they are or plan on using one. So tell us what tools or what function do you need to perform and we can help with the tools. You mentioned spyfu earlier. Do you need it? Not in my opinion. Do other people use it. Sure they do.

What you will find with any tool is Joe will love it, Sally will hate it, I say you don't need it and Goofy says you can't do without it.:))

Anyway, glad I could at least help the first time.

    Good luck,
    Zeek
