hi, i manage a free web directory, many sites register daily. how can i know if the site that ask me a link is not in a bad neighbourhood ? is there any tools for that ? after all i want to create a quality web directory!!!
You define a bad neighborhood by reviewing the sites that your linking too. Check it's pages, where they linking to ,etc..
Maybe just do an info:www.site.com on google. If the page has been around for a while and google dont index it maybe you should stay away from it. It dont take google long to find a site even if its only been around for a few weeks. I hope I understood your reference to "bad neighborhood".
linkfromdomain:site.com in MSN will tell you who the site is linking too which is important in establishing the neighbourhood.
I don’t have any idea whether such tool is available or not. But I suggest you to check some of those categories randomly which might have chances of containing such sites. Also you need to carefully check whether the sites are listed in proper categories or not. If you find sites in any odd category, then my friend, you need to work a little hard for that. Btw, if I find tools like that, I will definitely inform you.
if you have the google bar with pr enabled, sites with a greyed-out pr bar are generally banned/bad-neighbourhood site (altho not always the case) also do site:domain.com in google to see how many pages are indexed, dodgy sites that have been marked by google as bad will have no pages indexed. also check the page for keyword spam/stuffing and also hidden text etc
