I own both of these: #1. http://www.weddinggifthub.info Which according to this, has no PR #2. http://www.danscartoons.com/marriage_cartoons.htm Which according to this, is a PR4 I have both of these linked reciprocally(hosted on separate servers) and my main question is: I want to boost #1 in the index, so should I delete the link for MARRIAGE and WEDDING CARTOONS at the bottom footer? Or does leaving them reciprocally linked help? Thanks for any insight and constructive criticism.
Footer links don't look natural - you should try to link within body text. Reciprocal links are discounted/ignored by google as they are not natural. Google is a registrar and can access whois information to determine common ownership of sites. I would only link from one site - the PR4 to the PR0.
Thank you all, for you valuable input! I operate enough sites, divided onto 4 web hosts that I believe I can put together a reputable one-way linking between all. I'm taking mjewel's advice and deleting my own link from my other site www.weddinggifthub then, since it is n/a in the page ranks as of now. Well said, one & all! Btw, I assumed links in footers were still just that...links - because those are on the actual index page of the site(s) in question and are "spiderable" by the bots or so I thought (???)
Google has no problem finding footer links, it's just that when a site "naturally" links to you, they aren't going to put it in a footer. Footer links look like paid links to google. Google knows about interlinking sites, hence the use of IP addresses and even whois ownership to determine which links are owners "voting" for their own sites. If the link is there to drive traffic to your other sites, then it's ok. If you want it to look like a "natural" link (which are the only links google "wants" to count, the links that are more apt to pass link juice, put inside of text like you would if you were writing a story and giving a link to a site that you don't own. If you're running the same adsense account on both sites, or have them in the same webmaster tools account, then it probably doesn't matter what you do as google already knows about the common ownership i.e !not a natural, unbiased vote/link.
