Hi guys I have started searching for sites related to my keyword, and contact them to exchange links. My question is, how many outbound reciprocal links should i have on one page? At the moment i have a links page and i am adding the links there, but is there a limit to how many links you should have on one page? Also, is reciprocal link building effective? Or should i just concentrate on building inbound links only? How many should i expect to need to rank on page 1 for a term with about 500k page results in google? Cheers
One thing...Link exchange is not of any effective these days and even the same fact is backed up by Matt Cutt. You will not get any link back advantage for this strategy but if you want your website to crawl frequently then you should surely use this method. Still if you want to go ahead with this then you can build a page specially for link exchange. There is no problem in placing links over there as many as you can. BUt try to exchange links with websites which are really good and authentic.
The more outbound links you have, the less PR-juice they split, if you have 1 outbound link, all your PR-juice goes to them as well, if you have 2, it'll be split in half and so on. I wouldn't bother building these links, they are worthless these days, for the time/effort it takes to build just a few of these links, you could of built thousands of other backlinks. My advice would be to move onto something else, because your not going to be able to get very far.
If you have created informative content and would like to send your users to a genuine outbound resource, then go ahead and add your links where you see fit. For each page, try to keep it around 20, however, you could go up to 100 links and still be ok. I'm sure many of us have seen sites where someone posts a list of say 500 directories and that webmaster still receives tons of traffic. Why? They have provided something of value. Good luck!
I don't see reciprocal linking is worthless. I don't see any harm either if we choose our link partners selectively only linking with those relevant to your niche. I think it does allow people to discover more informations of a particular niche which we might not be aware of. Just my opinion.
I was thinking in terms of my Thai recipe website - i.e i could exchange links with other non thai recipes sites such as chinese, korean etc - will such relevant link exchanges actually help my SERPS?
I don't know if it is effective, but I have placed some on my site just in case. These are automatic reciprocal links, which are convenient. Check it out at the very bottom of the site. http://clickonportal.blogspot.com
