I've heared that link exchanging between 2 your sites can be very dangerous ? I am talking, you have 2 sites and you make reciprocal linking (a point to b, and b point to a) , and they aren't topic related . SE's could it see like manipulationing serps . Is this dangerous ?
Matt Cutts recently posted about this in his blog, without digging up the exact quote he basically said that it's common for webmasters to crosslink between their sites and therefore he doesn't consider it spamming (the site in question had probably 10 footer links to other sites in their network). That's not to say those links aren't devalued though, I'm confident that G knows what sites you own (afterall alexa does) and probably doesn't count links from each other as "votes".
I would stay away from doing this especially when the websites in question are not topic related. You can do it to some extent but, avoid overdoing it. It is only beneficail to do link exchanges with the sites that are related to the content of the other site.
I don't think that Google can tell what sites you own. That doesn't make sense. DNS records can be different for each site and the IP can also be different.
If they are on the same ip, then those links mean nothing. Their weight is pretty small. Better to have one backlink from different ip than 10 backlinks from the same ip. You get it. And is it dangerous, you can read second and third post.
Take it straight from google's mouth in regard to Relevance. If Site A is about "X" and links to a site about "Y" then site A is devalued. You should only link to a site that is directly related. If you link to unrelated sites then your PR will suffer.
You can do it but not if you have 50 random sites. I'd say up to 5 your safe. But if your mixing a gambling site with a childrens education site, :/
It may not directly effect your PR number but it influences your ranking on the SERPs. PR is basically meaningless... ranking high in the SERPs is what counts & bad linking decisions will harm you.
OK... I'm confused, so bear with the n00b for a second please. What about: 1. A directory site 2. A blog where the author has a list of favorite links 3. Business Resource Site with links to advice for starting a biz, office supplies, etc. etc. JB
I don't know exactly what google does, but I have dozens of sites, most webmaster related and they are almost all interlinked and they are all on the same IP. In fact during the recent PR update, I had two site see a good boost in PR and the only backlinks they had were other sites of mine. My off topic sites are generally not linked but some are. For example I have featured links on my directory site to other sites of mine.
what about all these blog networks that have links to all the blogs in their circle. isn't that link spamming? hadly any two blogs in such networks have anything in common.
