Reciprocal Link Question?

I m just wandering.. If I have a site that has a PR4, then I trade links with a PR 3 or lower.
Would It affect may PR status?
What effect can it be? negative or positive?
What is the best way to do with the reciprocal links?

No it will not lower your PR.

Don't worry about PR if the link is relevant to your site then link to it. We follow a few basic rules.

1) Will the link be relevant?
2) Is the page our link goes on cached in Google?
3) Is there fewer than 50 links on the page?

If the answers are all yes then we link exchange.

Just click on the info button on the Google toolbar and select Cached Snapshot of Page.

I also follow these guidelines, basically.

I also consider:

Not so much the page's current PR, but their overall value. Making an investment in a low PR site that has potential is like putting money in a promising IPO - if you think it'll be good or great later ...

Additionally, I always check whois to ensure a site doesn't have a history of being on a blacklisted host.

I know this seems anal, but I always check the code of a site or page. I've seen too many pages get high PR and SERP only to later succumb to unethical tactics in an attempt to go further or remain where they're at.

I also see who else is linking to them and with whom they're exchanging links.

 

That cool bro, I also check their backlinks, so i know how many good sites have link to them.

My basis algo is much simpler: do I want my visitors to go to this site I'm linking to?

that will exclude all irrelavent links,(like viagra, finance etc)
and it has to be a 'nice' site. Even with PR0 (that can change anyday)

It's probably better to check PR, backlinks, cache date etc, but my method save me a lot of time

When I exchange links I don't even think about PR - my number one criteria is relevancy.

I believe relevancy beats out PR by a mile - I could easily get links from sites with PR 6,7,8 but they'd be all casino, link farms, sex-related.

 

Its nice to know that are some who believes in relevancy, I had some Link exchange that had been refected coz they are expecting a much higher pr in in their link partners.

Ive been pissed off with those kind guys..
