4 days ago I sold my site for 400$. The buyer contacted me saying Ill give you my ftp info, just set it up for me. It's been 4 days, and he hasn't contacted me, and traffic is declining because no one is maintaining! Can someone tell me what to do? Should i just leave it to him to follow up? Thanks.
Wow! we need to have more guys like you in this world and on DP! Green rep+ from me for that statement!
lol >.< but seriously - should i try to maintain it? I took off my ads because its his site, but all that income going down the drain. For all i know he could have died...
No luck contacting him? Hopefully he's not a fraud buyer, or doing chargebacks of anykind. ( Escrow payments should be safe ). Well if the site is owned by the new owner, I wouldn't go ahead and put my ads back, hence it'll lead to some arguments later on when the new owners find out :-D Be happy of what you got.
Well, if he paid for it, it is his site. It is no longer yours. My experiences its that sometimes buyers just buy what seems hot then take their time to move the site while looking for a good place to move it to. I had one customer who bought two sites from me but did not do anything after that. I contacted him and told him that I had to remove the sites within a month as I was giving up that server and cannot host it. He say he will. I told him that after that period I cannot be responsible for anything. He was fine with that and it came as no surprise that when the month is up, he still did not run those sites. They are basically gone. Basically, once you sold a site, the responsibility is no longer yours. The buyer can choose to do what he wants with the site. As long as you try all possible means to fulfil your side of the sale and that you ensure that he got all the necessary information, you are off the hook. Contact the buyer and see if he gives you some kind of response.
yay i sent a pm and he replied . Lets see how things go (it took him 5 days to get hosting and mySQL and stuff it seems
dont bother if you have the payment....( the buyer must be busy in some problem)....but its nice that you cared for him
The same thing happened to me about a year ago. I sold a major site for $6,000 and the buyer was ALWAYS super slow to reply to emails. After about 7 weeks from the first payment I got pissed and just sent him the company docs and all the details for FTP and pushed the domain to his goddady account. He never bothered really following up and the site sat there unused and unmaintaned ever since. In fact he was hosted on my server and after 8 months I sent him an email asking him to make an offer for hosting costs or move the files to a new server. Received no response so deleted the account. He never ever bothered complaining or getting back to me. It was kinda frustrating because I put a heap of work into the site and service and to watch it just sit and dwindling down burned me quite a bit. I really wanted to see him to do well. The fact that he wanted to pay via e-gold always made me a bit suspicisos too. I still have no idea what his game was!!
