Yes this is quite true. There were many directory owners who were less worried and who were not approving the links on time. These lazy owners were bringing bad names to other directories. To what i think, directories are getting better day by day. They haven't lost their importance.
I hate to disagree with your expert opinion, but I feel we're still seeing an ongoing decline in quality as far as directories are concerned.
