Granted, the submissions have been fewer and incomes have been lower. In the long run this might work in our advantage as the not so good directories are going out (not much money (if any) is being invested into them) and the good ones are becoming better. so after recession (hopefully soon) the difference between good ones and spammy ones will be much more apparent and it just might work to our advantage what are your thoughts?
That's an interesting point of view. I would have never looked at it that way. The problem is that there are still a lot of crappy directories appearing every day.
Its also possible that during the recession that some people maybe move away from things like PPC slightly, maybe still looking to spend money on promoting their sites and thinking how they can stretch their budget with long term seo efforts, like directory submissions etc. Here in the UK, we are still officially in a recession as far as im aware, ive had not a lot, but more submissions than when they were just talking about the UK going into a recession. Btw, im a bit jealous that some countries are already coming out of theirs
The impact of recession is still there, but either in a short term or a long run there is still some folks who submit to crap directories due to the lack of their knowledge but yes the recession has a good impact on quality directories.
I think that the recession is basically over here in the USA as if you where going to lose your home/car or whatever it would have already happened and or basically these people moved on and started over.. More People have been submitting to our directories recently New and Old SEOs as they are aware that back-links are king regardless of what any SE says or does and the fact there clients are coming back now (more work load) ... After the Holidays Sleek and a few others will be promoted heavily again as well as a few NEW niche directories will be born so as far as im concerned its back to work after a very very long and unexpected vacation Lol.... money talks and BS walks (this will never change) laterz malcolm1
I wish the recession was over in the USA. But in the latest news the number of homes entering foreclosure just hit an all time high. We are only seeing the beginning of the carnage!
Mortgage delinquencies hit record high Thurs., Nov . 19, 2009 ...the proportion of homeowners with a mortgage who were either behind on their payments or in foreclosure hit a record-high for the ninth straight quarter. Think again.
I get your point and I totally agree with your thoughts here. I think recession does indeed eliminate the less earning (usually the bad and over-filled directories). I hope those crappy directories gets eliminated though.
Ressesion has always been good to anything that relies on quality and not on taking advantage of circumstances.
Intresting point of view, and i think that recession have helped directories (industry) as a whole but surely didnt help any directory individually.
I don't know, I just feel that whether there's a recession or not, junk directories eventually will never survive. Only the quality one does.
There are lot's of New directory is made every months and Lot's of are Expired but remembered one things if you make directory for earning some money through Paid or Featured Submission it's will obviously affect your thoughts. but if you maintained your directory good with regularly approval checking kicked out spams sites etc. it's will make good impression not only in Search Engine but also Visitors Point of view. so you should have to maintained it's in regular manner and i Don't things Recessions has been good for directories owners. even well establish directory sites and good sites also effect their business in this durations.
The problem was, is and will be that there is virtually no $$$ barrier to entering the industry and because of that there will be 1,000,000 crappy, spammy directories that make the other 3,000 good ones look bad and hurt the entire industry. I would have to say that things have remained fairly consistent for us. I made a conscious decision NOT to raise my prices for listing and as a result we've continued to see pretty stable listing numbers. I will say this though, I have seen a HUGE rate in the number of sites that our team finds DEAD! Lots of site/businesses that listed going under at a record rate. So, no slowing down on new listings, but an overwhelming increase in delisting as the result of dead URLs.
