Recently climbing from 1$ to 3.5$/day on my website: Makemysushi.com after moving the ads up in the nav bar.

From what I hear, though not tested, banner ads are mostly disregarded automatically by users

 

For my idea your site is nice but your need to put some pic or content in leaf site not emty area

After all, I didn't build this website to make money, I did it for sports.. But extra $$$ never hurts right?

 

You can try to blend in an ad (468 x 60) right below your slogan (centered)

Then my tip is continue do it for sports and more money will come by itself. Build, build, build.

People tend to look at ads with blue colors for the lettering. Try that too.
