Whats the best way to accept money on a subscription basis.. only small amounts though i.e. £6.99, £9.99.... considering PayPal subscriptions but unsure if the 'man on the street' would be able to easily use it..

    Absolutely - PayPal.

You'll be able to have a subscription button on your site in no time.

Krush - there's also Nochex (http://www.nochex.com/) who are UK based though I'm not sure if they offer a subscription-type service.

Subscriptions can be placed on most credit/ debit cards with the exceptions of Maestro (aka switch), Solo and Style.

Some will offer subscriptions on these cards but they are technically breaking the scheme rules and so you may ultimately run into problems in the future.

PayPal makes an easy option, with a go it alone service you are going to need a second merchant ID as reoccuring transactions must be placed on a separate ID to one off transactions and for Mastercard you are now required to use the Card Updater service before applying for a reoccurring transaction but one of my clients (as a consultant) has just had major problems with it.
