About a month ago I received a request to remove a link from my directory.
To begin with it didnt make sense since the link was there for months and wasnt even a paid link.
I challenged the person mailing to request the same but by mailing from the actual site email rather than @gmail.com
    no reply

Again this happened today regarding a different site.
The email used is also @gmail.com
I seriously think this is an attempt by competitors to remove links from their own competitors.
I will again reply to this mail and request they mail me from the official site email.
Im sure I wont receive a reply.

    Anyway else have this happen?

Very interesting. I've never been so desperate to beat my competitiors that I'd try something shady like that.
Thumbs up to you for asking proof of site ownership though :)

I had one similar situation - since the email was not the same as the one submitted from it seemed strange to me so I did not remove it.

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm sure more than a few directory owners would have simply deleted without verifying ownership.

I am continually amazed at how people have so very much time to throw away on such useless endeavors.

Yeah it does sound like this is the case, stooping to an all time low, people will do anything to try and knock the competition.

Its good that you checked it discover.

Ask them to simply email from the website email address and then the request shall be acted upon. Once I got a phone call and the person requested to remove his link. I said kindly fax the request from the official company letter head with the concerned persons official website email id. He said ok, after that I never got his email or fax.

These are steps to remove competitors linkbuilding.
