15 hours ago i rebooted my server as per usual but this time it didn't start up. Site was working fine prior to the reboot. I emailed them to turn it back again for me but they replied 13 hours later with what's further below. I wasn't heavily modifying iptables on my server at all the tables always remainded as per default. I have with them older FC 2 , apache , mysql, plesk (same for 2 years.) I only think of a problem that the plesk was auomatically upgraded month ago and maybe not in harmony with the OS? They are constantly upgrading their offer with newer OS's and hard ware etc. They stopped me this way 3 times for hours (in two years), however this time there is big damage for me as the machine can not be simply started

What are your thoughts on this? I feel like ... well horrible! What is the required internet connection to install my own server box at home for busier forum website and with about 2000 html pages? Some company offers here 8mbps (same for upload/download) speed on optical cabel.. I would need someone to install my server parts to make it work initially, I can do all maintenance by myself. Thanks a lot.

    "Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting hosting support. Our Data Center Technicians have investigated this issue to find that the network configuration was heavily modified regarding iptables. Unfortunately this is something we will not be able to troubleshoot and resolve, you will need to reprovision the server to be able to return connectivity. You are able to request a reprovision from the Hosting Manager for your server.

Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way.

    Regards,
    Advanced Hosting Support"

That's what's wrong! Godaddy is great for domain registeration, but a LOT of people have trouble with hosting. You can have a dedicated server with out having it in your house. I've used ev1servers.net for six years.

    Thank you for reply.

I looked at ev1servers.net offer, which one do you use?, I am in europe and DP runs fast from here.

I recon the Conroe 3060, Intel Xeon 3060, 250GB, 2048 MB RAM, @ $209.00 could be fine. What do you recon, is the 'standard firewall under plesk' good enough or should I buy extra firewall??

I need to act fast now, I bet I am loosing SE index positioning completely.

    Also, fyi
iptables/firewall can cause issues with rebooting.
I may suggest writing a cronjob that flushes the ips everyday or every week

The trouble with Linux is that it does not require you to reboot when you update anything even when there is problems so you only when things goes wrong when you reboot it.

Anything other than GoDaddy would definitely be better. Check out http://www.webhostingtalk.com , there are many which provides what you need.
