    Hi there

I registered HSSTV.COM (High School Sports TV) Nov, 2005. Six months ago I received an unsolicited offer of $350.00. I turned it down and the offer was increased to $750.00. I turned that down also.

Four months ago another unsolicited offer came in. This time for $500.00. After several e-mails between us the offer reached $3500.00 three weeks ago. Around the same time, someone from GoDaddy contacted me with an offer. After three exchanges the rep agreed to match the $3500.00.

I told buyer #2 about GoDaddy's offer and he is now prepared to pay $4750.00. I just sent an e-mail to the GoDaddy buyer telling him we are now at $4750.00

I feel sure this Domain Name is valuable to someone. I am however new to this and fear I might killl the deal. Please advise.

    Thanks and stay blessed
    In Agape
    Ken

That must not be a common acronym. Google doesn't show much.
I would've taken the $750 easily. $475 is not bad at all either.

That's right and unsolicited offers are usually scams, that is why they don't care offer more and more money.

They would probably come with the need of getting an appraisal and that is where you are at risk to be ripped of.

At namepros and right here such offers coming from nowhere have been discussed.

    Yes, this is quite common.
If the "buyer" mentions the word "appraisal," it is a scam 99% of the time.

I would think that most likely it was an appraisal scammer as I don't feel that the name is worth anywhere near $3.5k, sorry.

Thanks to everyone for your respective input.

FYI, one of the buyers is in talks with Fox Sports to launch a Television Station to compete with HSTV.COM.

    I will keep you posted.

BTW, is there a standard procedure to follow when selling a Domain Name, to limit the chances of being ripped off?

    Thanks again
    Ken

Well - to be safe - you could use Sedo.com's service - but they would cut off a nifty amount ( 15% is it ? ) out of the deal.

Using other methods, make sure you get the money Safely transferred and all conditions agreed - before you hand him the account.

Also SSTV is Slow Scan Television.

This is used to transmit video over amateur radio equipment either in the HF, VHF or UHF part of the spectrum. I've played around with SSTV back in the Amiga 500 days, but havn't done much recently so it could denote Highdefinition SSTV although i'm not aware of any High Definition work done with this transmission.

Or even the H could denote High frequency SSTV.

Just another possible use for a buyer.

But yes if they ask to pay for an appraisal, tell them appraisals are worthless and the domain is valued at what they are willing to pay, and what your willing to sell for. No appraisal can calculate this.

If you got an email from a guy saying along these lines:

"domains are not my business, we develop databases/websites, please post your price in your title, I am buying to resell so I must make sure I don't overpay, signs his name as a PHD or CEO of some company, wants you to pay for an appraisal & points to a forum that talks about reputable appraisal companies, then it's a scam. This particular guy has been very active recently.

In the end of the day, never pay for an appraisal. If he wants to buy your name, he pays for the appraisal himself.

Check if the buyer us willing to use an escrow service.
If not, then you may want to stay sway.

Hate to say it, but it does sound like a scam. That domain name isn't worth anything near 3-4k.
