Received an Offer

    Hello,

I've recently received an offer of USD 3000.00 for the domain name FOOTBALLCHALLENGE.NET. Considering my initial investment on the domain, the offer appears to be a fair one, but I have associates telling me that I should respond with a counter offer.

I don't want to scare the buyer away, but I also don't want to undersell the domain. I'd appreciate any thoughts that you may have.

    Regards,
    Rich

For that domain, taking into account it is a .NET, I'd definitely take the $3000 offer.

I would counter with Ad Space included.

Sell it to them for 3K and ad space or 2500 and ad space for say 3 years or something along those lines.

Then send use some money for giving you ideas..... =P

I recently had an offer on one of my domains, matched what i was hoping for so i accepted, even if i could get more, id rather take what i can get than scare the buyer away.

Result: currently in the process of transferring.

The ad space means little to me. Although I operate several other sites, advertising them isn't necessary.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I still have a bit of thinking to do on the matter.

I would just be careful that the buyer is a scammer. That's a nice offer for that domain, so there is some possibility it is a scammer. Probably a good idea to use an escrow service for the sale, and certainly don't pay for any appraisal the buyer wants you to, that is a known scam.

I wouldn't spend time on thinking, if it's honest buyer, than it's someone with the need for that specific domain name, and I agree with 'norfstar'.

For $3000 i would not take the risk to scare away the buyer, just ensure you are not scammed for the domain.

Don't make it a messy deal with ad space. There is no cheap or easy way to enforce any ad space deal down the road. Use an escrow service , not PayPal, and DO NOT pay for any appraisal. In an appraisal scam the "buyer" makes you pay for an appraisal to an associated appraisal service then he is no longer interested in your domain after you have paid for the appraisal.

You didn't provide all the details, but I'll assume you didn't promote the domain forsale. If this is the case, then I would counter offer. It's obvious that they want the domain and they might be low balling you. If they don't want to bid more, then you could just agree to the original offer..

Or, you could just take the money and run since there is a huge chance that the buyers have access to the internet and found out you posted this thread..because it does appear in google when searching for the domain..

I just wanted to post a quick update...

After a lot thought, I decided to respond with a counter offer of $5000 with the buyer paying all transfer/escrow fees. This offer was accepted by the interested party.

The transfer was handled through Sedo.com, and although there were a couple of issues with the transfer process, it was all worked out by the transfer agent at Sedo (Iris Siedlatzek).

Thanks again for all of your input. It was very helpful in making my decision.

    Regards,
    Rich
