And larger, more bloated, and are prone to not working when the next browser version is released (since the updating of the plugin is left to the whim of the plugin's developer)...

Marginally larger, and I do not call it bloat when you are selecting the extensions. I update one week before public release of an update and all my extensions work, maybe with the exception of one or two and that is where the developer has to do a fair bit of work due to the update. And without them, Firefox sucks :p

I alternate between Opera and Firefox - there are functions of Opera that I miss at the moment, but a lot of web sites that I'm using at the moment render better in Firefox than they do in Opera. I've found that the latest version of Firefox is a lot less buggy than some of the previous versions, and they seem to have fixed the memory leak too.

I agree Opera is a great browser, though. I think now it comes down to personal preference which one you use - both Opera and Firefox are far superior to IE, so finally we really have choices in the browser market :)

Woah there Dan, keep quoting me wholesale like that and you'll get banned here like I did over on another 'pointy' site... Though maybe I should just get it out of the way and use the 'W' word now. (Was not aware that actually constituted a race)

As a web designer, I am stuck testing my designs in gecko based browsers, and the instability and piss poor memory use annoys me no end - especially when the maintainers at Bugzilla rather than saying "we're on it" or "thanks for reporting" respond with two paragraphs taking an experienced programmer like myself to task for using the word 'crash' instead of 'hung' - a distinction I've not heard in THREE DECADES of computing.

But then, a picture is worth 2K.
Only tab open is google - note the cpu use. Does not go down no matter how long you let it sit, you have to kill it's task to get control of your computer back (when it does this in OSX it's REAL fun since you can't do **** - and the linux response isn't much better trying to get to a terminal sessions to kill kill kill) That particular screencap was of 1.5, but 2.0.x still does it every twenty minutes like clockwork, regardless of OS or hardware platform - I can walk up to machines people use FF without problems on all the time and crash it inside 20 minutes... and have been able to do so with gecko based browsers from before firefox was a twinkle in some dirty hippy FSF fanboy's eye.

Between my experiences finding entire sections of the HTML4 and CSS2 specifications unimplemented (more standards compliant my ass), the attitude of the bugzilla staff, and instability problems...

**** firefox/gecko and the open sores it rode in on.

... and yet as a web designer I still make sure my pages render right in it. I just have to kill it every 10-20 minutes.

I use Kubuntu and Firefox. Together, they are a fantastic combination. No memory leaks. Speedy browsing. (Almost) infinite tabs can be opened. Ahh, I'll never go back.

firefox rocks. does not matter that it crashes too easy, but it helps me debug code real fast. and the firebug extension is amazing. not even compared to IE webdev toolbar which is a shame, and it costs money. Other reasoons to use firefox: although in theory it supports html standards with like 1% less than opera, the very used properties are implemented best. i have problems with complex floats on opera and sometimes with absolute / relative positioning.

although opera loads much faster, firefox seems to me that is more stable. i can do a lot of things with it. in opera i can't....

Imo Firefox is much better. I've used Firefox like at least 2 years without having troubles with crashing and such. (It have happened though but only about 3-4 times).
I like Opera for the design and everything but Firefox feels more stable.
