In my opinion, these are the main causes of increased bounce rate - 1> not relevant keywords used in the website 2> problem in content or content is not written interesting 3> website design/look 4> non relevant social media activity means following and adding non related peoples. 5> lack of products and services in the website 6> Google sitemap not present in the website. I hope this will help you a lot..
From my personal experience I usually leave websites if I just... don't like them (kind of related to your #3). I never stick around any website that has a black background with a white text on it. I don't find brown backgrounds attractive either. Images have to be sharp. Paddings / margins have to be proportional. The width has to be either full (like this forum's) or at least 960px.
I think that some of the bounce rate is because the search engines (all of them) still do not always do a great job of finding what the user wants. When you compound that problem with websites trying to be things that they are not, there are a lot of people who are searching for something who are simply going to the wrong websites.
link structure and other design related details play the biggest role in bounce rates for the sites that rely on organic traffic. #3 is the answer, others are irrelevant or less relevant to bounce rates.
I agree with the above and I'll add site speed. I forget the length of time the average user is willing to wait, but it isn't long. Another fact is over-promotion (popups, etc).
Direct slogan under the logo is always good to have because it answers the visitor's question right away which is "What kind of business is this?" The good thing is nothing is set in stone so you can dabble and experiment.
Hi, Are You providing the meta description correctly of what the page is about . Users wants the relevant content for their queries, if they not find relevant they skip over. So provide relevant meaningful content to your site pages.
For me, it's " failed expectation". The users usually expect to read or see something more than the website has or advertises.
Usually people bounce because it's not clear what they are supposed to do next or the content isn't targeted properly at them / is bad. If they don't find what they are looking for almost instantly then they will bounce away. I know I do. Don't make me go spending 5 minutes just trying to figure out where the content is or what it's about.
