The main reason people are pissed with vbulletin is they are asking us to pay again to use thier software..and not that vb4 is turned out to be bad..
For some, that is true. I've read plenty of customers state that the price isn't their problem; it's the quality of the product that is.
I have paid, but I've not upgraded! I'm afraid too! Read the horror stories anyplace but on vb.com (they seemingly have been deleting some of the better ones) and was likely one of the main reasons they stopped making discussion threads for updates... heh... can you imagine the HORROR the thread would look like if they allowed a discussion thread for 4.0? If you upgrade to 4.0 you LOOSE 10% of your memberbase! TEN PERCENT! That's a lot... as if you have paying members, 10% will not renew, and will likely demand refunds! If you rely on ads, then 10% of your revenue is GONE! (10% based on the average number of people still needing to use IE6 because they can not afford a better box). vB4 does NOT work in IE6. The CMS is a HUGE resource hog with many permission issues. Most of the people that paid for the suite are actually only running the forum at the moment due to the number of bugs! No discounts or refunds here! I didn't mind the cost... though I will NOT pay for 5.0 if it's out in 18 months. they can KMA if they expect me to fork over $250+ every year and a half. Though...if they can FIX 4.0 I know I'll end up loving it...
I've decided that I'm not going to bother with the mess they made of 4.x. If they can release 5.0 in a timely manner and in a quality manner, I'd be glad to consider going from 3.8 to 5.0.
