I have a wordpress site with a theme that I bought. I hired someone to make some changes that are outside my skill level. Anyway, the "developer" claims that he needs server access to edit the files to adjust the theme. I am not an expert, but I don't recall a time when I've been told to make adjustments to files on the server, with respect to a theme. Should I be real concerned? *This isn't a "bash WP thread" so don't do it.
Ask the developer to tell you what files / what in the files need to be changed and change them yourself.
That's what I'm hoping he'll do. I have a feeling he doesn't even know.. I think I'll have to reinstall everything and recover what I have for a backup. Foolish, I am.
So, I kicked the a** off the server and finally fixed the mess he made. Then I looked at the logs and, instead of being in England like he claimed, he's from Lagos Nigeria. Damned scammers. Never again will I trust anyone with that.
You can send him the theme and tell him what to do. He can send you back after done with all the alterations. This way is safer. You can fix the problem and test the adjustments along the way by uploading the returned theme to the server. But this can be at risk of theme stealing anyway.
