I am in the middle of 2 trades & shocked to see both of them are banned now.
Both are having good itrade & good no. of posts. I have done the trade by PM only & don't have their email or IM. Now I am not able to contact them as they have been banned.

I personally think, Moderators should mention the reason & duration for the ban in the member's profile page so that we can have the exact idea about their ban & expected date of their return on DP.

Are you agree with me ?

Yeh maybe, maybe not why they were banned, just when they will be back.

I'm not agree with you. lol

This has been suggested before and the answer was no. Actually there are only 3 reasons why they can be banned.

    1. They're Peons who spammed the forum.

    2. They received their 10th infraction (for any reason).

    3. They had duplicate accounts.

    Hope this helps.

    Here's a suggestion:

What if 500 members paid Shawn $2 each to get the mod installed to make this happen? The mod would cost maybe a $100 and Shawn gets $900 minus PP fees of course. Is it worth that much? More maybe?

    Just a thought.

I think there is one more reason & it is the most important & fetal for the reputation of any forum & it is FRAUD.!! The member can also be banned permanently when he/she tries to scam someone. I have read few posts where the member was doing good on the forum with currency exchange & when he gets banned due to infraction points people are starting to say that the person is a scammer, don't do any exchange with him or something like that. Now when the person comes back to the forum after his infraction point expires, no one will believe him for a while to start business again with him. That's why I want you to show the reason for his/her ban, so that people can trust him again when he/she returns back to the forum.

I am ready to pay my $2. That's a nice idea.

If donations are required to make this happen, I will donate $50 to this, if Shawn thinks it is worth it.

Shawn, this would make a LOT of members a bit more secure about doing business with other members. I don't know of any other forums doing this. DP would be the first.

    Food for thought.

On this forum we do not ban members permanently. Every ban expires some day.

    EDIT:

    Oops, we do! :D

Whilst I wouldn't mind it, people shouldn't be silly enough to get banned. The rules are pretty straight forward.

Well, I was talking about what mods can do. I'm sure Shawn and Rob can ban users permanently. :p

This thread is not about people getting banned for infractions against the rules of DP. This is about doing something to identify people banned for this and people banned for scamming. There's a huge difference.

I can understand the arguments both for and against displaying ban reasons publicly - although in the case of temporary bans, a return date would certainly come in useful and help allay confusion during trades.

Personally i'd like to a difference between how permanent bans and temporary bans are shown on a users profile - whether thats explicitly stating 'Permanent' or 'Temporary' - or simply indicated by an asterix or something of that nature.

I don't think this will actually happen, but it'd be nice nonetheless.

or how about some identifying image that indicates a persons level of infractions, a bar that gets longer the more you have thus warning folks of an impending ban action.

banned members can still read the threads, if you are in a deal just make a post in the deal thread to them with your contact details.

the reason a person is banned is between DP and that person, it is no-one else's business.

the next thing you'll be asking from DP is to run a credit check on members and post the results of that in our profiles.
