Hello, Me and my partner Josh are working on a forum script similar to vBulletin but we are building it in Ajax/PHP and are going to make the posts real time posts. what do you mean by "real time" posts? Well by real time i mean instantaneous posts so when someone lets say posts a new thread without you having to refresh the page the thread just shows up instantly so refreshing the page becomes obsolete. How will this be done? We will be writing the script in Ajax & PHP an example of real time posting is available right here on the DP forums. Here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/spy.php What it does is instantly shows you new posts that users are posting without you refreshing the page. ------------------------------------------- Here is the design I have come up with so far: So what I want to know is what do you guys think of the idea? -John
Very cool idea, I have always been interested in how real-time applications work and can be managed on a broad scale with the given technologies/coding methods. Is it really possible to have an entire forum running at the same "quantum" time with the hardware we have? This needs to get done, I just wish I knew where to look for research and study. One of the coolest innovations I've seen for forums, keep on with it
thanks for the great comments when we finish the script we pla on selling it like vBulletin does for $49.99 regular and $89.99 Copyright Removal
thanks for the reply I really think that this could become one of the future ways to go with forums its so much faster and will make it a lot easier to use forums. this is probably going to take a while to make though im sure vBulletin took a while to make -John
I thought it was pretty cool especially when I thought about it being real time at first it was all going to be some basic ajax and then I said to my partner maybe we should take it a step farther and make it all realtime and all he said was "Hell Yah!!!" lol -John
That would be really cool. That would be perfect for BST section in DP forums. and I suppose if you someone needs to edit, it would real time too? All the best mate!
yes it would you wouldnt physically see the words typeing out but as soon as the user clicks save edit or something like that you would see the text change intantly -John
