I've put up a directory at www.reallyusefulstuff.com - the intention is to collect a huge database of sites that offer real and practical advice, "how to..." type pages and online manuals and tutorials. Submission is free, no reciprocals required, and as the directory grows, registered membership will offer some advantages... please submit your really useful stuff now!!

reallyusefulstuff.com is very much a work in progress, so expect gradual design changes over time.

Does it have to be an dedicated 'how to' type of site or can any odd site with a few how to pages submit?

As long as the link points to the "how to..." pages I'll accept them :)

We've got one page with an intro and then you need to give your name and e-mail. An automatic 'how-to' e-mail about health is sent. Would that count? Or does it have to be on-page?

Sorry, on-page would be necessary... the whole purpose of the site is to provide direct links to what really gives me a buzz about the internet (free dissemination of information)

If you're going to use WSN Links, you may want to at least try to use the mod_rewrite you get with the paid version. The licence price is extremely cheap for what you get, and it will result in a far more professional-looking and useful directory for webmasters, IMO.

Seems to work fine. It did jump to a category I didn't submit in once after submitting.

One annoyance is that you have to suuggest a category first, wait for it to appear, then submit it. That will put people off I think. Especially when you gain momentum in your submission process. I don't like the blue either.

    Just my ideas.

Thank you though! I think I'm done submitting now... Gave you a link back as well btw.

I am populating categories as I go... I didn't want to replicate yahoo, dmoz etc since their aims are different to mine, so it is difficult to know exactly what categories are needed, so I'm grateful to thiose who are suggesting categories as they go.

    I know the feeling. :)

I have a site in limbo with WSN at the moment - I should get around to finishing it. :)

Great idea, Trance! "Usefull" is spelled "useful" in the US (Didn't know if that was a mispelling since the UK and the US seem to spell everything slightly different.) :D

    Nice work TF,

This is going to cause me to do what I have needed to do for a long time. Rewrite the content on a few of my pages. Thanks for the motivation. It's too bad I see someone already did a BYOPC (build your own PC)... At least they did a decent job... *sigh*
