I'm taking baby steps towards getting into astronomy, and have discovered a really nice open source planetarium application called Stellarium. Just thought I'd post it here for anyone who likes looking at the night sky, and also as an example of how good open source software can be It's only 40mb, runs on Windows/Mac/Linux, and is totally worth a look. http://www.stellarium.org
I read few review articles about it, and this really sounds to be an efficient planetarium software. I'll give it a try.
Sorry to resurrect such an old post! this software is fantastic, and its free!! I use it quite regularly, very accurate especially for when you can see the planets, watching one of the moons transit across Jupiter or even for watching meteor showers, it shows where to expect the meteors to originate from. excellent and worth a download. You can also put it into red light mode, great on the laptop outside when you don't want to destroy your night vision!!! enough from me. jon
